Dragonflyer Newsletter # 25

Oct. 08

I was blessed to attend the wedding of Hiro and Fuko on Maui,
taking this sunset photo of them after their wedding.

Aloha Dear Dragonflyers,

Come to the Dragonfly Ranch any time you want! You can visit Kona at dragonflyranch.com to see what the weather is like here--thanks to the newly installed webcam (thanks to Phoenix).

Hoping all of you are enjoying beautiful Fall weather. Hawaii has been exceptionally rainy this year so everything is green and lush here. Actually, "overgrown" is more the operative word. It’s a jungle out here! But I have two reliable Dragonflyer men, giving me a hand in keeping this paradise attended to. Whew!

Larry Spinelli (also known as St. Lorenzo and "Mr. Clean") lived and worked at Dragonfly for several years in the '80’s. He is a brother to me, helping me out with an easy going can-do personality. The inimitable, all-purpose Phoenix, visiting for a month, has started an exciting business with friends in LA, marketing "Phoenix Naturals" superfood. If you'd like to know more you can contact him at: phoenix@dragonflyranch.com.

My dear friend, Alicia Bay Laurel, Singer/Song Writer/Author (Her book, Living on the Earth, first published in 1971, was recently reprinted for the new generation of ecologically aware/back-to-the-earth "hippies"--both here and in Japan ). She sang for us following a dinner we shared with her Japanese friends on their wedding day.

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs."—Thomas Jefferson, 1802

The Fed was crafted in November 1910 by a small group of bankers, who met in secret on Jekyll Island off the coast of Georgia. They met secretly because Americans did not trust the large banking families and secrecy was essential in order to fool the U.S. government. Congress and the president were fooled into hasty action just before the 1913 Christmas holiday. The Federal Reserve Act became law on December 23, 1913.

President Woodrow Wilson later regretted that he had not vetoed the Federal Reserve Act. He said: "I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated governments in the civilized world - no longer a government by free opinion, no longer a government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men."

Speaking of finances, I am reluctant to sell the beautiful Dragonfly Cottage but mortgage costs (wouldn't you know they gave me 100% financing!) are draining my tightened budget.

If anyone wants a beautiful 3 bedroom/2 bath fee simple home with 1/2 acre in the sleepy town of Kealia--for a bargain price--please call me. This cottage is adorable and there is the potential to build a second home, have a garden all year around, use solar energy, catch rain--for the self-sustainablility we may likely need in the not too distant future. 808-328-2159

On the 2 acres of Dragonfly Ranch, I'm expanding my Hawaiian healing garden with an accent on Noni and Olena (Tumeric) as well as expanding my orchid growing for flower essences. It is rumored that Bishop Estate wants to have only agricultural leases. Since I was not allowed to purchase my residential lease (because it was "too large"), it only makes since to be an agricultural lease.

My dear new friends, Laurel (left) and Tina (right), came to the Dragonfly for a healing Girlfriend Getaway.

Knowing each other since college days, these girlfriends have helped each other survive cancer. Tina, a fantastic jazz singer (Eva Cassidy quality), well known in Austin, Texas, is now challenged with cancer again. If you would like to hear her music, you can order it at www.creop.org. Tina Marsh is not only an amazing singer but also a very special person. She merits our prayers. As her friend, Laurel, said, “Tina is a bright light.” Let’s do what we can to support her so she can keep shining as long as possible.

Rather than inundate you with long newsletters or send frequent short newsletters, those of you who want to know what is happening here and what I glean from my voluminous internet peregrinations, I invite you to sign up for my Dragonfly Ranch blog postings at www.dragonflyranch.com/blog

I get numerous informative emails about health, politics, art and jokes on a daily basis. To remain sane, I feel a need to balance facts with beauty and humor. At this point, with the Wall Street bail out and the unending wars, Americans seem forever doomed to debt. Taking action may or may not make a difference at this point. But if we can’t enjoy beauty and creativity while we attempt to make changes for the better, laughing about it on the way to our graves, where would we be?

Recent guests from Sweden who honeymooned in the Lomilomi Suite, Fredrik and Christine, are both fine artists and wonderful people. They are heading to China for 3 months as an artist exchange sponsored by the Swedish government (I think). At any rate, you can check out their websites by clicking on the images below.

I am the new president of Hawaii Island Wellness Travel Association.
In late October, I'm going to Oahu to learn how to do video interviews of our outstanding HIWTA members. Roxanne Darling, host of Beach Walks with Rox, will be teaching me to do these Webasodes!

Before your next trip to the Big Island, visit the HIWTA website to see the breadth and depth of the Big Island's natural healing practitioners and holistic service providers. We aren't called "The Healing Island" for nothing! Many talented healers can help make your Big Island vacation one of healing and relaxation.

One of my food gurus, David Wolfe, offered to allow me to quote his opinion about the Big Island:

“Hawaii is the best place ever. With consistent warm, beautiful weather and the ability to supply an amazing variety of fruits and vegetables all year around, the Big Island makes the perfect place to host our organic, raw-food workshops.”
~ Dave Wolfe, founder of www.sunfood.com, www.ftpg.org, author of The Sunfood Diet Success System, Eating For Beauty, and Naked Chocolate, internationally famous teacher of eating organic raw foods.

I feel so blessed to be able to plant seeds that come from my old plants. That won’t happen if Monsanto gets their plan approved to have GMO seeds that only they control.

Virginia Hoyte, our local dance insturctor, is my exercise trainer. I credit her for inspiring me to exercise my back pain away, using the gyrotonic system of "Organic fluid spinal movements and rhythmic breathing patterns that help stimulate muscles and internal organs.". She is a dedicated and gifted instructor and is willing to teach Gyrotonics here at Dragonfly--in addition to any workshop happening at Dragonfly or AS as a workshop at the Dragonfly.

Virginia and I did a short video demo in the Illuminarium that will be on our workshop page as soon as it is edited into a youTube for you to watch. You can experience the positive effects with just doing 5 minutes of movement. Like Bikram yoga, I do these exercises daily in my detoxifying far-infrared sauna (If you are interested, call vice president Larry at  888 729 7729 and give him my name for a discount price on having this wonderful healing tool delivered to your door).

How many of you still don't know that DU is the lethal result of creating Nuclear Power? This government-suppressed information is availble on line if you want to know about the DU menace to humanity and how to avoid it.

Mahalo to all of you who wrote to our Big Island County Counci against DU in Hawaii. Our local representatives are amazingly responsive. They listened carefully to our testimony about DU and decided to tell the military to CEASE ALL LIVE FIRE ON OUR ISLAND. It is most impressive to have our local government standing up to the military, watching out for safety!

You can go back one issue and click on the info there to become informed about our government using this WMD in Iraq, endangering everyone on the planet with the lethal (not at all depleated) uranium dust particles.

Matt Howard, a veteran against the war, speaking at “Winter Soldier”, said this:

“…this is the Agent Orange of this occupation. This weapon has no purpose in Iraq… But, let’s be clear here: depleted uranium is an anti-armor weapon… the Iraqis do not have armor. They don’t have tanks. They don’t have bombers. Why are we using this? And again I urge you to do the research yourselves. I can quickly say that we’re using this because it’s a way to get rid of atomic waste. We do not know what to do with that.”

I got this good news about the clean energy revolution from wecansolveit.com. Check it out.

One of my most articulate, outspoken friends was bothered for weeks on end by the roar of military planes directly over her farm, "wasting precious fuel" flying from Oahu to the Big Island training area daily. She made a number of calls to attempt to stop it from happening. Finally, the day after she complained about it in a lenghty letter to our state representative, the unauthorized planes ceased their unnecessary missions wasting tax payer dollars!

My friend, Ioa, who lives near the volcano with her sweetie, Candle, sent this dramatic photo. Although none of us are thrilled about what this major spewing does to the air quality, most people enjoy the show Pele is putting on. While few are bothered by it, I have “Vog Relief” by my friend, Edy (edynaturegoddess@gmail.com) and Yarrow Special Formula by the Flower Essence Society of California to fortify lungs so that it doesn’t bother anyone.

In the early ‘80s when my mother died, a very dear friend from Ojai was “there” for me. While I was emotionally devastated and financially bereft, this generous, kind and very funny friend helped pay my lease rent, gave me "William the Galliant Valiant", bought me a new washer, etc. He even bought me fancy clothes and took me dancing. Instead of feeling sad, he got me to strut my stuff, belly laugh and feel like the refined “lady”I forgot I was. I shall be forever grateful to my friend, Ross Travis.

We used to wonder how good soy is for us. After reading this, you can see that soy is not something we want to eat if we want to be healthy.

Tragedy and Hype: The Third International Soy Symposium
by Sally Fallon and Mary G. Enig, PhD

Phytoestrogens – Panacea or Poison?

The male species of tropical birds carries the drab plumage of the female at birth and “colors up” at maturity, somewhere between nine and 24 months. In 1991, Richard and Valerie James, bird breeders in Whangerai, New Zealand, purchased a new kind of feed for their birds, one based largely on soy protein.47 When soy-based feed was used, their birds “colored up” after just a few months. In fact, one bird food manufacturer claimed that this early development was an advantage imparted by the feed. A 1992 ad for Roudybush feed formula showed a picture of the male crimson rosella, an Australian parrot that acquires beautiful red plumage at 18 to 24 months, already brightly colored at 11 weeks old.

Unfortunately, in the ensuing years, there was decreased fertility in the birds with precocious maturation, deformed, stunted and still-born babies, and premature deaths, especially among females, with the result that the total population in the aviaries went into steady decline. The birds suffered beak and bone deformities, goiter, immune system disorders and pathological aggressive behavior. Autopsy revealed digestive organs in a state of disintegration. The list of problems corresponded with many of the problems the Jameses had encountered in their two children, who had been fed soy-based infant formula. read the full article >>

I was hesitant to taste this mousse like avocado dish but found it to be absolutely spectacular!

2 large or 3 medium ripe avocados
1 large lime
1/4 cup agave syrup
1 tsp vanilla

Scoop out ripe avo and place with all other ingredients into food processor.Blend until smooth. Refrigerate or freeze. Enjoy!

Sept. 22 at 4am, our dear Kiki passed out after yelping in pain. I was afraid she died! After a century-long minute, she came to--thank G.O.D. (Give Own Definition). I took her to the vet who did tests and discovered that her heart is “enlarged” (not a good thing). She has a heart valve problem which we are now addressing with medication--possibly giving her another year or two of life. Yippee! As George Carlin, bless his soul, said: "When we get a new puppy, it is like buying a little package of Death." The reason this is sadly funny is because it is true! For now, we are cherishing Kiki's precious little furry body for as long as her heart keeps pumping.

On the way home from the vet, I stopped at the pet store to purchase dog food where I re-discovered a happy little puppy (born July 4th)—a Jack Russell Terrier/Chihuahua mix. I fell in love with her in a store when she was 6 weeks old, and re-fell in love when I found her again. I forced myself to leave the store, returning an hour later. This time, a hawk (io) flew closely over my van. Needless to say, I brought "Iolani" ( the "heaven-sent hawk" puppy) home. While Kiki is alive, I want her to imbue her spirit into Iolani. Although she may appear to be a little angel, Kiki and Makana, have found that Iolani can be a teenage terroristic hoodlum! But, like the rest of us, they are growing quite fond of this snuggly darling.

If you take the time to watch this "must watch" program, you find that Karl Rove was involved in making money off of suppressing the evidence that this "sweetener" causes brain tumors and other life threatening diseases that can be avoidable by simply avoiding this deadly additive. In 1980 on the Journey of Transformation in Egypt with Jean Houston, I had the good fortune to meet her husband, Bob Masters. We became fast friends and he asked me to assist him in the Temple of Karnak with his beloved goddess, Sehkmet.

more on my blog

I will miss "Papa Bob."

I hope that if you would like to hear from me frequently you will read my new blog. Those of you who send me good things by email (especially Richard Diehl, the Kauai Museletter, Ralph, Mica, Shannon and Denise), please keep sending them so I can share with others! It is heartening for me to know that there are over 1500 of you wanting to know what is happening at the Dragonfly...and in my world.

Thank you for being my friends.

Sending you all my warmest Aloha and blessings for a healthy, happy Autumn season.
