Accommodation/Cancellation Policy
In Hawaii, the taxes we apply to your accommodation are rated at 11.42%.
While we wish we didn’t have to charge this extra fee--we are required
to collect it for the state.
At Dragonfly we work hard not to disappoint customers by turning them away. We
charge the full amount in advance to hold your booking. In the event that you
do have to cancel, please let us know promptly. This may enable us to resell
the space and reduce the cost to you. We apply a one-night charge to cancellations
made outside of 30 days while cancellations within 30 days are subject to the
full charge. However, if we do resell the space, we will refund your payment
less a one night charge.
Like most B&B's, we try to adhere to a 3 night minimum stay. If that is not
possible, there is a $20 surcharge. Also, $20 per night is charged for each additional
person over double occupancy
To avoid any monetary loss if your plans have to change, we suggest purchasing

romantic, dream-like experiences. Nestled in a lush jungle setting
with ocean views, this suite features a king-size
outdoor bed—with memory foam and 800 thread count sheets,

canopy. The bed and food preparation areas are screened-in
under a pavilion roof—like a bird cage for people. The other
half of the suite is an adjoining indoor redwood room (separated
by a shoji screen) with a queen-size futon, two-way access bathroom,
dressers and entertainment center. While the suite is a perfect
secluded hideaway for a couple, some people enjoy sharing this
exquisite experience with family or friends. Outside, hidden by
tropical vegetation for your privacy, is a shower and a romantic
double bathtub sunken in lava. A private round deck overlooks
rock walls and gardens, a meadow and beyond to the white water
of the bay at the ancient "Place
of Refuge." You can

Background Information
Barbara Moore, soul proprietor of the Dragonfly Ranch, has been
crafting this “expansion mansion” since 1974. From
a Virginia family who hosted guests in the early 1900s, Barbara
humbly welcomes adventurous travelers to feel at home in her
home.
The Dragonfly Ranch is in the most "ideal" location on the Big Island's
Kona Coast. This area is known as "The Playground of the Royalty." Forty
minutes south of Keahole-Kona Airport (26 miles), this romantic getaway is a
half-hour drive (19 miles) from the town of Kailua-Kona. Near the ocean on a
lightly-traveled road, the Dragonfly just 2 miles above the ocean at Honaunau
Bay with its historic healing temple in the center of an ancient "Place
of Sanctuary." The Dragonfly Ranch is a modern day sanctuary, blessed
to be in the middle of the "Sacred Healing Triangle" where
Samoans and Tahitians of ancient times sailed for healing purposes.
This beautiful country estate offers many scenic views of the ocean. Without
a house in sight as one looks down at the sea, grazing land provides an idyllic
buffer of privacy. On the dry, sunny side of the Big Island, at an ideal elevation
of 600 feet, the temperature is usually about 72 degrees year round with little
wind and only moderate rainfall—enough to keep everything green. It's a
3-minute drive to the Pu'uhonua O Honaunau National Historic Park,
10 minutes to Kealakekua Underwater Sea Life Preserve, and 15
minutes to Ho'okena Beach Park, a lovely sandy cove. These areas
are famous for an abundance of playful dolphins and the finest snorkeling in
all of Hawaii. For your convenience, The Dragonfly provides towels and rents
snorkel gear, wet suits and life vests. Dragonflyers often experience the indescribable
joy of having friendly, wild turtles and dolphins swim with
them in these beautiful bays.
Helpful Hints
Transportation: We gladly make arrangements
for your car rentals with Alamo.
Food: If you have special dietary needs,
we can lend you an electric wok, rice cooker, etc. Breakfast,
of course, is supplied. We grow tasty greens in our organic
garden. In the spirit of "Aloha Aina" we welcome
you to give to the land (weeding, watering, planting) and
receive from the land. Good restaurants and supplies are
within 5 minutes, along with a fresh fish market, organic
fruit stand and grocery stores.
Bugs: For people who stay at the Dragonfly,
living with nature is desirable. Just remember: "It's
a jungle out there." We minimize the possibility of
seeing these harmless insects by using natural methods. Unless
someone in your party has a terrific phobia -- for example,
fear of harmless spiders -- there shouldn't be a problem.
Our jungle spiders, while harmless, can be quite large.
Reservations: To truly discover the ambience
of this unique estate, we recommend a stay of at least 3
days. Visitors with a week or more on the Big Island find
that establishing a base at The Dragonfly and taking excursions-perhaps
with a mid-week overnight on the wet side of the island (Waipio,
Hilo or Volcano)-is a fun way to see the Big Island. Most
guests have found that staying in one place is much more
relaxing than packing, moving luggage, relocating and unpacking.
ALOHA: Aloha abounds at The Dragonfly
Ranch. Our competent Dragonfly team, 3 well-mannered Pomeranian
dogs and 3 friendly outdoor cats, enhance the Aloha we gladly
extend to our guests/friends. We look forward to meeting
you, hosting you, and helping to make your Hawaii vacation
a memorable experience, rich with color and depth.
Ask about our WORKSHOPS AND PLAYSHOPS — educational
and fun-filled weeks that include food, lodging, transportation,
educational talks and entertainment. We are continually developing
a variety of retreats—see our upcoming schedule on our
Retreats/Workshops page.
